SERENDIPITY EXHIBITION
Serendipity Exhibition Concept and Programme:
Serendipity is the effect by which one accidentally discovers something fortunate when having conceived, especially while looking for something else entirely.
The etymology on the term is one indebted to the English author Horace Walpole for the word serendipity, which he coined in one of the 3,000 or more letters on which his literary reputation primarily rests. In a letter of January 28, 1754, Walpole says that “this discovery, indeed, is almost of that kind which I call Serendipity, a very expressive word.” Walpole formed the word on an old name for Sri Lanka, Serendip. He explained that this name was part of the title of “a silly fairy tale, called The Three Princes of Serendip: as their highnesses traveled, they were always making discoveries, by accidents and sagacity, of things which they were not in quest of....”
As with creative practice in any media or mode expression the journey from concept to contextualization is an intrinsic and autonomous one by the artist. It is self discovery and a conception of a cultural object to become placed in public realm and evolve again in its temporal, spatial and historical meaning and context. Serendipity is an exhibition programme in two phases. The first is the solo exhibition by George Lund at LCAD. The second will be a collective show by Jo Derbyshire, Diane Canon, Sophie Richardson and others to be announced and curated by Ali. The exhibition concept is a journey explored through a series of retrospective and new art by Liverpool based artists, whom have had their work exhibited international in an array of galleries, festivals, biennials and more. The exhibition Serendipity brings you a passage of realizations through the independent artists visions and experiences.

Lund is a Fine Artist with a colorist Naïve style adopted in his artwork. His creativity was expressed since a child and became self taught in early adult hood in his unique and distinct approach. Twenty years later, as a mature student, he took this innate skill and studied a BA (Hons) Fine Art Degree at Bradford University (UK). His practice ranged from mixed media, paints, screen printing and more with an infusion and explosion of vibrancy he has become renowned for in the professional arts market. Other work has included live art and performance, as the infamous ‘Funkadelic Chicken’, an adaptation from his hybridized creatures embodied in his works and philosophical texts on the theme and title ‘Animal Utopia’. His artwork incorporates abstractions of space and time and reference of hybridism, urbanism, juxtaposed to concept of natural order. He has exhibited and performed extensively through many festivals, exhibitions, biennials and has an active role in the management and creative developments of Transvoyeur.
